Calcinotto were appointed by the owner of Castlepoint, Aberdeen Standard Life, to carry out a monitoring role for this locally high-profile project.
Challenge
Consulting on a high-profile project
As has been well documented, the full extent of the car park at the shopping centre has to be completely demolished and re-built, which is being done in phases over a 4-5 year period.
The works on site are being carried out by Kier Construction, who has a long relationship with this development. Phase 1 has already been completed and handed back over to the shopping centre for use, whilst Phase 2 has started in earnest.
Our duties involve reviewing and commenting upon all of the project documentation, including the contract drawings and method statements, together with monitoring and inspecting the works on site as they progress and producing regular reports for the client team and other interested parties. Visits have also been made, in conjunction with Kier, to inspect the facilities where any components of the build are being pre-fabricated off-site.

Solution
Rejuvinating Castlepoint
As a result of our ongoing relationship with Castlepoint and the managing agent, Jones Lang Lasalle, we have also been appointed on an ad-hoc basis to provide advice on structural matters when tenants request alterations/additions within the existing shop units. To date, we have provided consultancy services in relation to refits for such retailers as Sainsburys, GAME, The Entertainer and JD Sports.
The plan is to rejuvenate this important, 1.98 hectare, town centre site that has been underutilised since the demolition of the existing concert hall in 2006.
