Calcinotto were appointed by the client to provide civil and structural engineering services for the design and construction of this new self-storage facility in Banbury.
Challenge
Creating a modern storage facility
The development comprises a five-storey building with associated external customer services yard.
Solution
Proactivity in construction
The primary structure comprised a structural steel frame supported on reinforced concrete pad foundations with a ground bearing RC slab at ground floor level; however, the design and construction of the intermediate floors was taken out of the main “shell and core” contract and procured separately via a specialist mezzanine flooring contractor.
The civils drainage design incorporated several attenuation tanks with discharge to the local public surface water sewers via a pumping station. The foul water discharges directly into the public foul water sewer in the adjacent road.
