A statue in honour of Mary Anning, one of the earliest Palaeontologists around Dorset
Challenge
A showcase of architectural brilliance
Calcinotto were approached by the Mary Anning Rocks Charity in Lyme Regis to help them erect a statue to honour Mary Anning, the 19th century palaeontologist from the town, who was struck by lightning as a baby and who went on to risk life and limb collecting dinosaur fossils on the cliffs around the town to provide and income for her family.
Solution
Developing timeless architectural masterpieces
Today, her Ichthyosaur skeletons adorn the walls of the Natural History Museum and her work is now very much celebrated, unlike back in the 19th century. The statue was shortlisted for the nominated for The PSSA Marsh Awards 2023.
Calcinotto provided (free of charge) engineering services to ensure Mary stood proudly looking across to Black Ven Cliffs, where most of her fossils were discovered.
