Calcinotto have spent their day hosting Charity Partners MYTIME Young Carers’ Employability Program, in order to help level the playing field.
Helping to empower those 14 and up, to dream.
The employability program is designed to support those 14-25 by blending training and real-world experience. The idea is to introduce the skills, and self-belief needed for the workplace.
The scope of activities for today’s session were designed with a broad insight into a workplace, and given our specialist workforce, we tried to educate whilst remaining engaging to our visitors.
The day started for our Young Carers at 11:30, when they rocked up on site to be delivered an ‘introduction to the workplace’ talk, which offered an overview of different professional environments & expectations, with multiple career pathways covered.
This was followed up by a Q&A lead by a variety of our engineers, from apprentice-level up to director, in both civil & structural capacities, as well as a quick reflection of the marketing and admin tasks seen in the office.
After a hearty lunch (Dominos!), our visitors were met with an interactive interview workshop, focusing on key employability skills, common interview questions and constructive feedback.
Thanks to all our volunteers in the office who made the day special!
For many young carers, the barriers they face in education don’t disappear when they reach adulthood – they follow them into the workplace. Almost half of young adult carers aged 18-25 aren’t in employment, education or training, and nearly one in two say their caring role has significantly affected their career progress.
