Located within the Grosvenor Estate and Belgravia Conservation Area, 14 Belgrave Mews West involved the redevelopment of a traditional mews house into a modern three-storey home with a new full-depth basement.
Challenge
Building a basement to compensate the space.
Our design introduced a new basement sub-structure whilst preserving the original façade and protecting neighbouring properties.
The basement extended the full footprint of the property, maximising space within extremely constrained site boundaries. Its design required detailed analysis of ground conditions, groundwater behaviour and the stability of adjacent buildings to ensure excavation could proceed safely with minimal movement.
Solution
Focusing on smart and efficient design
Careful co-ordination of temporary works, waterproofing and foundations of neighbouring properties ensured long-term durability. Environmental impacts were addressed from the outset through detailed studies and mitigation strategies for groundwater, drainage, noise and vibration, as well as looking at the restrictions of plant and deliveries.
