Calcinotto were appointed to this multi-branded car showroom and service/MOT workshop on the outskirts of Eastleigh, Hampshire for the Hendy Group Dealership.
Challenge
Reshaping Sustainability Basics
The challenge was to reuse a site housing civic office and transform it into a car showroom, whilst sticking to sustainable and practical building methods.
This brought the new Hendy Group car showroom, housing Nissan, Renault, and Dacia, which was part of the second phase of redeveloping the former civic offices site. The project includes two showroom buildings, a car display courtyard at the front, a workshop, a rear service yard, two-level car parking, landscaping, and site access.
Solution
Achieving sustainability goals
Calcinotto collaborated with Knights Brown to produce the following works:
- Construction of 2 no. car showrooms and car servicing workshops (over ground, first and second floors)
- Decked car storage facility (two levels)
- External parking for display purposes and visitors
- 2 no. new vehicular accesses onto site, plus circulation roads within the site
- Landscaping works, taking account of adjacent listed building (Fleming Court)
This project achieved numerous structural and civil sustainability benefits, including the use of 89% recycled steel for the structural frame, the installation of PV panels on the roof, and the implementation of a twice-filtered surface water drainage system prior to licensed discharge. Additionally, solar reflective glass was incorporated to enhance energy efficiency.
Calcinotto provided both civil and structural engineering services.
