Leonardo is one of the UK’s leading aerospace companies and is one of the biggest suppliers of defence and security equipment to the UK MOD. Our works were carried out in four phases.

Challenge

Upholding with Governmental standards

To construct a purpose-built 140,000 square foot factory and office headquarters amalgamating the electric motor factories and administrative functions, as well as providing additional room for future growth.

Solution

Leading with a phased approach

  • Phase 1 – High level gantries and walkways – Layout of required walkways and access points to be coordinated with other members of the design team based on requirements of access and maintenance.
  • Phase 2 – External Chiller support and grillages – Removal of condemned steel platform and replacement with new steel grillage to suit proposed chiller location. Excluded provision for removal of existing light green tanks and chiller structures.
  • Phase 3 – Removal of overhead service gantries and remedial works – where these are possible when live services are isolated.
  • Phase 4 – Remedial works to Chemical Store, Plant Room etc in ISS Facility – where there are a number of issues with the building as noted on briefing notes and photographic records issued to us.
Calcinotto provided both civil and structural engineering consultancy services for this project.
